Danish journalist and provocateur Mads Brügger arranges to take a small comedy troupe dubbed The Red Chapel to North Korea. The troupe is composed of the Korean-born, Danish-raised duo Simon and Jacob—the former is an affable straight man, the latter is a self-proclaimed “spastic.” The troupe is granted rare access into the country under the guise of a cultural exchange, yet, unbeknownst to their North Korean hosts, an “exchange” is far from their true mission. Rather, they hope to gain access into the heart of North Korea so that they might use humor to challenge and expose one of the world’s most notorious regimes. And their plan goes off even better than imagined.
