In FAMILIA, Swedish filmmakers Mikael Wiström and Alberto Herskovitz capture the emotional ups and downs of an impoverished Peruvian family. Nati and Daniel Barrientos struggle to raise their three children under dismal circumstances in their native country. When Nati, the family matriarch, decides to leave Peru by herself and take a job in Spain as a maid, everyone must adjust to her long absence as she attempts to generate more income and create a better life for them. Poignant and touching, FAMILIA is an intimate portrait of a family trying to stay together in the midst of great difficulty.
